Kyoto City Travel Guide
A 21-page (excluding covers) travel guide for Kyoto City, featuring a detailed history, food guide, and city directory, filled with custom illustrations.
The main goal of this project was to create a visually appealing travel guide for Tokyo City, Japan. There was to be an emphasis on the historical significance of the city, a highlight on the local cuisine, and a city directory included at the end.
Spreads are organized into categories and color-coded, making them stand out easier. In this case, red is related to the history section, green is related to the culinary guide, and blue is related to the city directory.
The spreads contain many elements, including two main articles, four shorter articles, and two infographic elements. The articles contain detailed information on the city’s history and timeline, culture, cuisine, lodging, and shopping, with a city map included in the city directory.
One of the biggest challenges I faced with this project was integrating the historical values of the city with the illustrations I was creating, then creating a trendy flow with the vivid colours I was using. A lot of time was spent researching the culture of Japan and the 1000+ years of history behind Kyoto City. I learned a great deal working on this project!
