A Beginner’s Guide to Infographic Design

Are you looking to design some eye-catching posters with infographics that pop? You’ve come to the right place! This guide will teach you all the tips and tricks to design professional infographics.

Step 1: Research

The first step to designing an infographic is research. Make sure the topic of choice is well understood, and make sure you save your sources! People may want to know where you got the information from, and having the links to your information helps people verify the legitimacy of your infographics.

Step 2: Finding your style

The next step is to figure out what style you want your infographic to be. Personally, I like designing in an isometric style when it comes to infographics, but it’s up to you to figure out what works best! Do some digging into design styles if you haven’t already. I recommend scrolling through Instagram, there are some talented designers there.

Step 3: Sketch your designs

Sketches can help form the base of your graphics. These can be done digitally or physically, whichever you are more comfortable with. I recommend sketching at least 3 different designs to start, then narrow them down to one that you like the best.

Step 4: Vectorizing your sketches

Once you have the concepts for your graphics, you can begin to vectorize them. This includes adding colour. Be thorough in your colour choices, as they can be a powerful tool in drawing your viewer’s eye around your poster. If you are planning to print your poster, make sure your document is in CMYK colour mode, or else your poster may print with weird colours.

Step 5: Choosing your typography

Typography matters! Make sure you pick good fonts that match the theme of your poster. Avoid fonts that are too small or hard to read. Statistics or other important numbers or figures should be large and bold, this will help them stand out to your viewer! Make use of your colours to help them stand out!

With that, your poster is complete! Be sure to comment on this post and let me know how your poster turned out!
